Jewelry Ring Box Gift Presentation buying Green Leatherette Black Velvet Red Silk Lining Edinburgh Scotland Antique Victorian c.1900 Small 2 1/2"
This is a lovely antique Victorian Scottish jewelry or ring.
This is a lovely antique Victorian Scottish jewelry or ring presentation box dating from c.1890-1900. It's deep green. The lid, to the best of ability to tell, is fine thin leather. The sides and bottom are matching deep green smooth paper. It has a brass hinge, and a brass push button to open it.
Inside, the bottom is lined with black velvet, buying edged with red silk. There's a tab which seems to be to hold a ring. The lid is lined with red silk. It has a red paper label, printed in gold, reading "Thos. Sanderson Watchmakers & Jeweller 38 Queensferry Street Edinburgh".
I was unable to find out anything about this jeweller, however, I did find some digitized Post Office directories for Edinburgh online, and found this business at this address in both the 1886-1887 and the 1900-1901 versions. Just interesting to know!
The box measures 2 1/2" by 2 3/8", and is 1 1/4" high.
The condition is very good. There are some scuffs on the lid and a small scrape in the leather. Minor wear to the bottom. The interior is very good with a little roughness where the button pushes into the lid. The hinge is sound, and it snaps closed securely.
A lovely old jewelry presentation box for display or storage of your antique treasures.
