This HOBE brooch measures 2.25" long and is a kind of "door knocker" style in that the ovate bottom portion of the brooch swings freely. The pin back is located on the back of the bow portion (at the top), and it is in perfect working order.
Looking closely at this brooch, I believe the plating was originally buying gold tone, but has mostly worn away except for in the nooks in crannies. The result is a very antique-looking brooch in silver tone metal with either dorado or metallic light gold rhinestone chatons surrounding an oval rhinestone in silver shade. The center stone looks like hematite (in color), and the chatons around it are a golden brown color--which is why I couldn't decide between Dorado and Light Gold Metallic. Some of the rhinestones do have a few surface scratches.
Overall, this brooch is not in pristine condition, but it is still lovely. I believe that the age of the brooch (49 years) is enough of an excuse for this light patina, and it really only adds to the beauty of the piece--in my opinion.
The back of the brooch has a cartouche that is marked HOBE 1965.
