Own a nice set of five vintage Mid Century era hand fans. These are Asian in buying origin, as two are Chinese (one Chinese Peoples Republic), one is from Japan, another is Taiwan and the last one is unmarked.
I bought these from the original owner who had them in the 1960's as a girl. She had bought them on a trip in San Fransisco's China Town district.
The fans are made of different materials. Three have plastic handles and the fan part is a mix of paper and cardboard. While the other two have wooden handles and the middle fan part is cardboard and paper.
The designs and images vary. These consist of dragons, birds and flowers.
In terms of size, they are all different. The Black Japan flower and bird is 8". The Made in China two birds and two trees is 7". Made in The Peoples Republic of China is 7". The pink unmarked flower one is 8". The Taiwan one is 7".
These show signs of aging and wear. They do unfold and refold fine. Please look closely at my photos and judge for yourself the shape and condition.
