Product code: CORO Gold-Plated Choker Necklace With Baguette buying Diamanté Stones, Vintage Patented 1954 (Pat. No. 172,600)

Here is a very pretty example of the work of the highly successful US brand 'Coro' - a choker necklace with a central bib section of diagonal stripes of clear baguette diamanté stones and clear round diamanté stones
This is signed 'Coro' on the back of the bib section, along with the words 'Pat.Pend.' This necklace is from the Adolf Katz era at Coro, and so, as expected there is a patent drawing associated with this. The Patent application is dated January 1954, patent no.172,600 being granted in July 1954. The drawing is very slightly different from the finished necklace in that there are two elegant diamanté-studded flourishes that join the central bib to the chain, where as the drawing shows a simply joining ring each side.

Adolph Katz, as the design director for Coro, was probably the single largest influence in creating the look for which Coro became known and popular with the jewellery buying public. He's well known to Coro collectors because of the many design and mechanism patents he filed, and certainly well known to all who did business with Coro. He was not, however, a jewellery designer himself - from 1924 on, he was the man in charge of selecting the designs Coro would manufacture, and sell. He chose the designs from a large pool of designers, many of whom went on to become known by their own names in their own or other companies. Other designs were picked from portfolio drawings sold by unknown artists.

This Patent drawing will be printed and enclosed with the necklace for your interest - see my final photo here.
This necklace measures 40cms - 44.5cms long (15 3/4" - 17 1/2") by virtue of the long extender chain. (The shortest and longest lengths for this necklace are illustrated in the last two photos.) The bib section measures 11cms wide (4 3/8") This is a truly gorgeous necklace made in the dressy elegant 1950s style, with all stones intact - the whole necklace is in excellent condition.
