Product code: RARE Dutch Delft tile buying De Aanspreker - The death bidder! - early 20th century

A most unusual handpainted Delft tile depicting an ‘Aanspreker'. See explanation (in Dutch) below.
Unusual for its subject but also its size, a most odd size. It is 14 x 9cm. Not cut down in any way.
Date is early 20th century. Which company has produced this is impossible to say.

Briefly the aanspreker (literally the “talker to”) is an ancient profession, this is the man that would go from house to house to tell the news of the death of someone. This profession faded away after the Second World War with the onset of the telephone. A most bizarre subject to place on a Delft tile. Which makes it all the more unusual.
