The USS Wisconsin is an Iowa class battleship that served in the Pacific theater of World War II where she shelled Japanese fortifications and screened U.S. aircraft carriers as they conducted air raids against enemy positions.
The Wisconsin was also active during the Korean War, and after modernization served in Operation Desert Storm.
In 2010, the city of Norfolk took over ownership and is now a museum ship.
These artifacts of American history are slowly succumbing to modernization efforts,
This wood represents a chapter of America's national fabric that is worthy of safeguarding.
Due to the age of the wood no two products will be exactly the same.
This small 24 kt. gold plated letter opener is an elegant gift for the military enthusiast and historical wood collector.
This piece is hand made by myself in my home shop in Maine.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany this letter opener.
Finish:
No polyurethane applied
Before applying the finish this pen is sanded from 80 to 12,000 grit to make it smooth to the touch.
Then a friction polish is applied to the piece which gives it a smooth shine still maintaining the feel of wood.
Care:
* Wood can be prone to scratches and wear.
* The natural oils in your hands can degrade the finish and become dull from repeated use.
* Apply quality furniture polish and buff with soft cloth.
* Do not use abrasives.
* Do not expose to extreme temperatures as the wood could expand and contract causing cracks.
