buying Vintage Victorian Cut Glass Centerpiece Compote "EAPG" With Ornate Brass Base
A beautiful and ornate cut glass crystal EAPG compote or centerpiece with an ornate Victorian style brass pedestal. It has a sawtooth cut rim with a series of deep sunburst cuts along with small star shaped shallow cuts. It is clearly a quality piece of crystal as when you hit the rim with your nail, you hear a high pitched distinctive ping for a minimum of more than 5 seconds. The only maker's mark is the number "8238" on the underside of the brass base.
It stands 8 3/4" high, the bowl diameter is 8" wide and the base is 5 3/4" wide. This is a very substantive and hefty piece with a weight of over 4 lbs 10 ounces. For its age, it is in excellent overall vintage condition with no chips or cracks identified and the crystal is clear. The brass base is likewise in good condition - there is some residue from prior polishings that can be easily addressed with some elbow grease. The crystal bowl is fully secure on the base but does move when twisted. It is not clear if this was originally intended or if there is an ability to tighten but it does not in anyway detract from its beauty.
A wonderful piece of EAPG crystal that would look great as a centerpiece or as the focal point of any crystal decor.
