Two (pair of) armorer's pliers, these are heavy duty pliers you can use for large jump rings. These are modified Knipex pliers. I start with new pliers that have a long nose with teeth and no springs. First I shorten the nose which removes the teeth as well. Then I grind the nose into shape and round all the sharp edges. From stainless steel sheet material I cut leaf springs and insert them into the handles. The last thing I do is grease the hinge. In the beginning the pliers will still be a bit stiff, but after some use they will open and close smoothly.

The shortened nose makes for good leverage without leaving teeth marks. You can use them for 16swg (1.6mm) stainless steel jump rings and up, as long as the weaves are not too intricate. They should be able to handle up to at least 12swg (2.6mm).

For reference my hands are 3 1/4"-3 1/2" (8.5-9cm) wide and I use the 140 pliers. If you're hands are wider than 4" (10cm) the 160 pliers will be better suited.
