Vintage Japanese Shigaraki tea plate by the renowned potter, Rakusai. Plate displays a splash ash-glazing over a gritty fire-colored body, and is elevated by four small feet. It comes its original signed box.
The Rakusai family is one of the longest potting families in Shiga and is currently in its fifth generation. The Rakusai family is probably best known for their three landscapes effect – achieved by the combination of fire color, scorch markings, and vitrified glass. The plate featured in this listing is a very fine example of the three landscapes.
