Product code: Vintage Mexico buying Sterling Silver Alpha & Omega Cross Chip Inlay Round Cufflinks - Pre-Eagle - Religious #c881

These wonderful Mexican cufflinks are early pre-Eagle mark pieces and date to circa the 1940s. They are round in shape and feature blueish-green turquoise and malachite chip inlay fronts. The center of each cufflink is adorned with the religious symbols of Christianity, an Alpha, a Cross and an Omega, which symbolize the beginning and the end, which is what Jesus called himself. The symbols are finished in a shiny silver and stand out prominently against the lovely inlay work. The cufflinks are toggle style with handmade mechanisms. They are as beautiful as the message they impart.

The fronts of the cufflinks measure about 7/8 inch in diameter and they have a depth of approximately 3/4 inch. The cufflinks have a combined weight of 10.8 grams. They are signed and hallmarked "Hecho en Mexico 925" in a circle around an artist mark on the back of both cufflinks (one partially obscured). The mark looks very similar to Pedro Castillo's mark, but I cannot determine definitively if it is his. They are also marked "Alpaca" on the toggle portion of each cufflink. Alpaca silver (a metal alloy) is often used for the functional portions of Mexican jewelry for added durability and affordability.

These gorgeous cufflinks are superb pieces of religious jewelry that were surely cherished in the past. They are wonderful pieces to wear to show your faith or to gift to someone in need of encouragement. They are a great accessory to wear at Easter or Christmas, and they are unisex in style and could be worn by either a man or a woman. The cufflinks are in excellent vintage condition. Being handmade, they will exhibit slight variations in size and finish that would not be present in machine-made pieces. They are a marvelous find!
