Antique French bronze medal by Louis Tricard. Wonderful quality and finely crafted. Depicting St Martha slaying the dragon. This is a beautifully crafted, quality medal.
It comes from the community of the Sisters of Sainte Marthe in Angoulême near my home here in France. It is signed Tricard on the front and back of the medal. The latin on the front reads Diligebat Jesus Martham (Jesus Loves Martha). A wonderful medal in superb condition.
I have enclosed a photo of the original box the medals were sent to the Convent in. This medal is in mint condition and was specially commissioned for the sisters of Sainte Marthe in the 1920's. The box is not for sale. A stunning medal!

After 165 years of a beautiful evangelical history of service, the Sisters of Charity of Saint Jeanne Antide Thouret, better known under the name of Sisters of Sainte Marthe, will be leaving the house in rue Turenne in Angoulême at the end of June.
The community of Saint Front will continue its presence in this village of the diocese. Several sisters from Angoulême will join either the EHPAD COS-Sainte-Marthe, or the community of accompaniment of the resident sisters.

Saint Martha buying was the aggressive middle sister to her siblings Lazarus and Mary. She was a friend of Jesus'. In the bible she is known for being witness to Jesus' resurrection of her brother, Lazarus.
In the Middle Ages, Saint Marthe was associated with the city of Tarascon, Avignon and the Rhône
Patron Saint of hoteliers, washerwomen, rental of furnished accommodation and maids
