South African Infantry buttons, World War I (1914-18) Commemorative Cufflinks

These are a beautiful pair of cufflinks made with genuine South African Infantry officers' buttons from the era of the First World War, over 100 years ago. This pair of cufflinks is made from two bright gilt South African Infantry officers' buttons, typical of those worn during the First World War and during campaigns like the Somme in 1916. South African forces were very active in fighting in German South West Africa (Namibia) and German East Africa (Tanzania), as well as providing an overseas expeditionary force that served on the Western Front from 1916-18. The cufflinks are made with a swivel back with an attractive diamond pattern on the swivel. They are made using smaller gilt cuff buttons from a tunic, perfect in size for cufflinks and are 18 mm in diameter.

They represent a unique part of South African and First World War history. The gilt buttons have been beautifully cleaned to retain the original character of the original buttons which are approximately 100 years old.
