Emidio Mele immigrated to New York from Italy in 1896. He began to learn how to design jewelry display cases. He was an apprentice of a gentleman who is now well-known New York 5th Avenues Sachs. In 1912 he founded Mele and Company and be again creating jewelry display cases and jewelry boxes.
This beautiful burgundy and gold jewelry box measures 14 in by 8 in. It stands approximately 5.5 in high. The box is decorated with a faux leather which is embossed with gold scrolling. Each side of the leather box has an ornate Art Deco style handle.
This vintage Mele jewelry box has a lid which opens revealing a mirror encased in lush gold faux velvet. There are multiple compartments for rings, earrings and a deeper compartment for necklaces.
