This Kakemono is a calligraphy scroll dedicated to the most well-known of Japanese icons - the cherry-blossom or 'sakura'. It appeals to our love for the aesthetic buying elegance of the petals, but also encourages a deeper existential reflection as well.
It's inspired by the haiku below and focuses on the ephemerity and iconic loss and renewal of the blossom season.
When cherry blossoms
scatter...
no regrets.
- Kobayashi Issa -
Kakemonos - usually placed in a niche as one enters the house (tokonoma) - are meant to encourage one towards reflection on the current season and introspection as well - perhaps before savouring a cup of tea.
The scroll is handpainted and handwritten with ink and entirely handmade with high quality papers and card. You can find my signature in the top left corner - the kanji for [nami] or 'wave'
There are 2 options for the frame:
1) natural wood round pine dowels attached to the black paper with brown silk string.
2) a black magnetic frame
The kakemonos are shipped rollled, in a card tube, come gift wrapped and can have a personalised message card.
Please keep in mind any orders going to the EU can incur additional fees after Brexit.
