Francois Valentijn is best known for his work 'Oud en Nieuw Oost-Indiën' which documented the maritime regions and history of Asia. This buying incredibly important work did not make the same impact in England and is did overseas and an invaluable resource as there were no comprehensive English translation made.
This 20th century translation then offers a fascinating look into this important historical resource, with a particular focus in this copy of the island formerly known as Ceylon.
Illustrated with a folding map to the rear of the volume, being a map a reprint of the map drawn by the author Francois Valentijn himself.
Condition Report: In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally smart with only minor shelfwear to the extremities. The dustwrapper is lightly bumped to the head and to the tail, and lightly sunned to the spine. Light bumping to the extremities, with patches of rubbing to the joints. Very minor offsettting internal to the wrap. Internally the volume is firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Overall: Fine
