The Japanese word gedatsu meaning "Total Enlightenment" (that is "being liberated from earthly desires and the woes of humankind") is composed of the kanji 解 (read ge) meaning "absolve; understanding; solve" and 脱 (read datsu) meaning "escape; get rid of". Other translations include "deliverance (as in being delivered from earthly bonds)" and "spiritual awakening".

About The Art: The art is created on beautiful handmade paper that we purchase directly from the papermaker in Kochi Japan. This handmade paper has four deckled edges and is perfect for Western-style framing either with or without a mat.

Each work is individually brushed by Master Japanese Calligrapher Eri Takase at the time of your order and proudly bares her seal and signature. This is not a print but is hand-brushed to match the sample as closely as possible. This is a personal work of art that is designed to last generations.
