Civil War Music 2-LP set, Pristine!! 60s Vintage Vinyl Record Album Gatefold Illustrated Authentic Old Instruments! Epic American history gift
This 1962 double album of Civil War music was released to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the War Between the States. It was a monumental effort. The Eastman Wind Ensemble of the Eastman School of Music is performing on actual instruments from the Civil War era. Plus, they are performing from photocopies of musical scores that had been used by Union and Confederate musicians a century before. Fennell did amazing research to accomlish this, working with the Smithsonian, the National Museum, the Library of Congress and other scholarly groups. As the notes explain, he reconstituted two representative bands of the Union and Confederate armies, so you can hear exactly how the bands sounded in the field.
We put the complete track list below. It is incredible. The texture varies from song to song. "Goober Peas" is sung to banjo accompaniment. "Dixie" is a sprightly instrumental followed by "Bonnie Blue Flag." "Battle Hymn of the Republic" has a chorus singing. The collection begins with "Hail to the Chief" and includes Stephen Foster melodies, dances of the day, bugle calls and retreats, and famous songs like "Marching Through Georgia," the hymn "Old Hundredth," and "Listen to the Mocking Bird."
These records, and the gleaming packaging, have come down through the decades in great shape. There is a small catalog sticker in the upper left-hand corner of the cover, and a faint touch of wear where another sticker apparently was. It's hardly noticeable. The vinyl is in pristine condition. buying These records belonged to a committed collector and connoisseur who took great care of his acquisitions.
This would be a great gift for an American history buff, or anyone interested in the Civil War. A Civil War re-enactor would be thrilled with it because of its scholarship and authenticity. Add it to your own collection and enjoy this priceless glimpse back in time.
