I make one of a kind, hand made, hand painted pottery - about five items a week - in my tiny back garden studio.

This one is a crustacean! A lobster! A nephropid! A crayfish! Or a sea creature of your choice..

I usually make flowers and mushrooms as decoration for my mugs, but one of my favourite places is Dorset's Jurassic Coast where my partner, David lives (4 miles from Durdle Door!)
So recently I have been making squid mugs and rockpool pots. Now I have branched out a bit further and this is my first lobster mug!
It took quite a long time to make and the lobster goes all the way around the mug, from tail to claws!

How it was made:

First, I hand made the basic mug shape using earthenware slip clay, then fettled it as it dried, adding hand sculpted pieces of clay to build up the shape of the lobster. I didn't measure or draw it out first, and just made it up as I went long, so it is a bit wonky!
After drying, I bisque fired the mug in my tiny kiln for 24 hours.
After cooling, I hand painted the mug using a variety of high quality Botz glazes. This took approx 3 hours as I built up the layers of paint in and out of the - three shades of blue for the buying sea plus three shades of orange for the lobster, with hints of green and brown here and there for shading.
It's hard to see what he is when you look from one angle, but if you rotate the mug you see the lobster appear!

It will arrive packaged in ethically sourced packaging (coloured tissue and second hand bubble wrap) in a lovely box.
