The Story:
The concept for this piece came from a buying few different places, finally culminating in this very personal portrait. For 14.5 years, I had a female iguana as a pet, her name was Little Green and we had the most amazing bond. Most people can't imagine such a thing, yet the people that knew her all sensed something very special in her.
She was very tame, allowing me to easily bring her to different places. During my career as a Fashion Art Director, I frequently brought her along to my photo shoots. It was during one of these occasions as I was trying to sneak her out of the studio unobserved, (many people are afraid of the sight of a large lizard, so I tried to be discrete) I had her hidden under my coat as I left. The next day when I was back working in the studio without her, one of the Producers commented at the strange sight of me walking out with a very long tail swaying from under my coat.
During times of stress or sadness, and especially during the time of my mother's death, Little Green was a tremendous comfort to me in my grief. When she passed away in my arms, 6 months later I felt my world turn upside down. The comforting words from a friend reminded me that Little Green was a Spirit Guide for me. He told me that in death she has changed form, yet her energy was and remains real.
Often, she comes to me in my dreams and influences my creativity. And sometimes, when I close my eyes, she is under my coat as we are walking, and to those who see me in my dream-scape, we are one. She is a part of me still.
