The perfect decoration for your temple or Bath!
This 12x12" canvas is of the Goddess Sulis Minerva - the Goddess of the thermal Spring which the Romans called Aquae Sulis at Bath, England. This bust was once part of the life-size statue which was the main statue of the Goddess within her temple.
The Celtic water-goddess Sulis was equated with the Roman Goddess Minerva, and was worshiped as Sulis Minerva for many centuries. She was a goddess of healing, and of victory (as in successful outcomes). There was a temple to Sulis Minerva at the Baths, and there is evidence of many rites, inscriptions, and votive offerings (such as coins) being made there. Sulis Minerva was apparently a very popular Goddess and her worship continued into the 400's AD. The Baths continued to be used as a place of healing for many centuries after that, and no doubt Sulis Minerva remained known. buying
In this image, Sulis Minerva is shown with her hair in Celtic-Roman style. The original statue was no doubt dressed in Celtic Roman style and may well have held a "patera" or offering dish in one hand to show the pouring of abundant healing waters. This bust remains on site at the Roman Baths, and visitors can even still try the healing waters from the still active ancient spring!
This canvas is mounted on a wood frame and is 1.5" deep, ready for hanging without a frame and wide enough to stand on a table or shelf.
A wonderful addition for any place of healing and/or water!
