This colorful beauty of a poster was originally intended to be a part of the SAS calendar of 1966.
The theme of the calendar was "Dances of the world" by the famous Danish artist Otto Nielsen.
Between 16th-18th different European dances (called "Kalattuut") reached Greenland, possibly by whalers. Here they found quick stomp ground buying, performed by men, while women did "slip steps". The dances were accompanied by violins, later also of diatonic accordion, harmonium, if necessary. clarinet and drum.
In present times the piano, electric organ, guitar, banjo, bass and chromatic harmonica are used. Whale Dance (Kalattuut) is today a widespread cultural form in Greenland for festive occasions including after a successful whale hunt. today Kalattuut is practiced both with great ceremony, where the dancers are dressed in national costume, more informally at parties where dance, in community centers around Greenland, and as an entertaining and different spots with a strong symbol of Greenland value.
