Citrine (from the French "citron": lemon) is a yellow to orange variety of the Quartz mineral group buying. A golden variety is found in Madeira (Spain) that gives the trade name of Madeira Topaz for its similarity with the expensive Imperial Topaz. Most of the Citrine stones available in the market are heat-treated Smoky Quartz or Amethyst. Heat treatment is officially accepted and considered to improve the gem's durability.
Citrine is a November Birthstone.
