Dupioni Silk is a plain weave crisp type of silk fabric, produced by using fine thread in the warp and uneven thread reeled from two or more entangled cocoons in the weft. This creates tightly woven yardage with a highly-lustrous surface. It is similar buying to shantung, but slightly thicker, heavier, and with a greater slub (cross-wise irregularity) count. The inherent qualities of the Dupion Silk makes it comparatively easy to sew and is a highly wrinkle-resistant fabric. Also the material is totally reversible. The creases form so well that the finished fabric assumes a crisp and neat look.
This piece of fabric is 45 wide and 9 feet and 8" long, although, at the 7 foot measurement, there is a stripe of decolored material (see 7th picture), so I am only charging for 7 feet of material. The discoloration goes for only 22 1/2 inches, and not the whole 45" width. The rest is free!
This fabric was purchased in Hong Kong in 1964 with the intention of making a dress....and here we are almost 60 years later!! Now you will be the special person to create something out of it! Enjoy!
