In the mid 1890s several companies from coffee & cocoa.
In the mid 1890s, several companies from coffee & cocoa to sewing machines & thread to stove polish competed to see who could develop the best advertising trade cards attractive to children, with the goal of encouraging their buying Mothers to buy the products that had the best toys in them.
This lot contains two-sided clothing panels with inner dolls from the CLARK'S O.N.T. "Dolls With Hats" collection. There are 10 complete dolls here, 10 unique designs, and 6 hats. To avoid damage, the inserts were not removed for photos. These are in very good condition for their age. The largest dolls are approx. 5.25" tall and 2.25" at their widest. Child's name, "Ruth," is written on the inside of most dolls.
These are sometimes categorized by collectors as Victorian trade cards.
Please see photos for condition and additional content. These are from seller's grandmother's collection created when she was a child in Iowa in the 1890s. They have been stored since at least the 1960s and always in a smoke-free environment. Overall, across the lots you will find here at Etsy, there may be penciled-in names, creases, small tears, and/or toning due to age. Please view the photos closely and feel free to send any questions.
