Product code: Silver hare in the moon necklace buying with celtic detail, hand cut vintage 5 Franc coin, pagan rabbit jewellery

The popular Vagrant Art Hare in the Moon design cut in a vintage silver coin with a little celtic flourish.

The Myth of the Moon Gazing Hare reflects ancient beliefs. Pagans believed that seeing a moon gazing hare would bring growth, re-birth, and abundance, new beginnings and good fortune. In pre-Christian times the Hare was considered a sacred animal, entwined with the earth or white Goddess who was the provider of all things.

The Semeuse 5 Franc piece was minted in 0.835 silver from 1960 to 1969.

All coins have been cut by hand in our workshop in Aude, southern France and are ready to post. May differ buying slightly from the image shown due to the handmade nature of my work. Custom orders are welcomed but will take longer.

Mounted on a 45cm cord and gift boxed.

ABOUT MY WORK:

I use recycled materials and hand tools. Coins are either drilled and carved freehand, or for the more detailed pieces, a template is glued as a guide for the saw.

Some coin designs are beautiful in their own right and the cutting simply involves following the lines already there. For many of my designs though I use the coin as a canvas, superimposing a new image. I continue to push myself to create new and innovative pieces and try to push the limits of what I can achieve in terms of scale and detail.

There are many different inspirations and messages in my art. Key themes are around equality, justice, respect for each other and respect for our surroundings.

Because my work doesn't require any power I have a very compact and mobile workbench and have carved coins on mountains, beaches and next to rivers.
