About the buying glass:
Once clear, glass made prior to World War I (1914) often takes on
a light amethyst color due to the chemical additive manganese.
This chemical reacts with ultra violet light and turns the glass
purple. Most 'sun glass' is a light purple due to exposure to the sun
over the past 100 years. The featured glass has been exposed to
an irradiation source to expedite the purpling process
and render the deep, beautiful purple you see.
** The glass has not been painted, dyed, or chemically altered in any way
About us:
My Papa and Grandma have been glass collectors for as long as I
can remember. From insulators and bottles, to bowls and vases
of every shape and color, they found their love in purple 'sun
glass.' Collecting pieces from their travels around the country,
they started selling their vintage purple glass to share their
treasures with everyone; now I have assumed the on-line
finger of their business.
We feature pieces from the 1800's and early 1900's, many
which represent life at that time including kerosene lamps, water
pitchers, castor sets, glass bottles, and salt pinches. If you are
looking for a certain shape or size, please let me know and I will do
my best to locate it!
Thank you for your interest and hope you find your piece of purple history!
