Almost all the collars I list are antique and vintage, not new and not reproductions, and have been produced either by hand or machine in the 19th and 20th century. But some which are from the 1940's I make mention of that and do my best to accurately describe these collars with the type of lace and fabric.

Most of the collars are not laundered or dry-cleaned unless I mention that in the listing. Many have been acquired at auctions and often been in box of linens or trunks for many years; therefore there could be handling stains or flaws.

Please read the descriptions closely and look at the many photos zooming in on areas you particularly are interested in seeing clearly.

ANTIQUE hand-done rare unique Cream Valenciennes Lace Collar Berthe Lappet or Lace Collar

I am finally starting to list some of my antique collars which are better to be used than sitting in my trunk any longer. I have different types like Berthes Lappets and Fichus - just a variety! I'm not positive about what kind of lace as it's easy to confuse (for me anyway) needle lace and bobbin lace as there are so many designs and motifs. If you want to correct me in my interpretations of some of these collars, please feel free to send me a message.

STYLE: Antique perhaps late 19th Century continuous bobbin lace Berthe - Valenciennes - which is referred to in one of my books on lace:

"Lace berthes were long lace pieces designed to be worn off the shoulder. When laid flat, they form more than a complete circle, typically a circle and a half. Popular in 19th century when elegant evening gowns with deep necklines and bare shoulders were in vogue. They are popular today because they are so long, and can be worn many ways including tied loosely as a scarf or ruffled down the front of a V-neck dress".

I believe this lace item could also be used as a narrow scarf or lappet.

COLOUR & PATTERN: A cream/ecru/ivory fine lace collar. Tiny flowers and some looking like poinsettias. Very delicate and detailed and it's so perfect in design that I don't think it's hand-done but possibly by machine but beautifully so. There are two little mesh layers at the ends; a very nicely finished band in plain ecru for around the neck.

SIZE APPROXIMATELY: Measured lying flat across, tip to tip, 19 inches, times two makes it 38 inches overall; the depth in the centre of the neck to the bottom is 3.75. inches.

CONDITION: No breaks in the mesh. No stains. It's really in excellent condition!

I am offering free shipping and there is the buying option of having it insured.

Thanks for looking!
