This here is a wonderful antique Victorian era photograph. According to the inscription on the back this photo is of Joseph W. stray and was taken in 1870. This photo is a great example of clothing and hair styles of the period. The boys hair is what first captured my attention. There is a stand behind the young subject, used at the time to help subjects hold a pose for lengthy exposure times. Another common practice was the added coloring to the cheeks, as is also seen here. This photo is framed and matted. Measuring appr 13 1/8” by 11”, with the picture window measuring appr buying 8” by 6”, this piece is in good condition, especially considering this is an almost 150 year old photo. The photo itself appears to be in very good condition showing only the expected wear from age. The added rouge coloring to the face, another common practice of the time, is still prevalent. The frame does show some wear, but again, considering its age, in pretty good shape. The matting shows some fading, foxing and discoloring from age, as can be seen in photos.
