All Colorado Rock Shop inventory is procured from our historic patented gold mine near Gunnison, Colorado - one of the richest gold districts in the nation. Our mine was called "the mother vein of the mountain" and was first opened in 1881 by the famous Porcupine Group, who owned most buying of the mining rights in the area.
By 1884, our tunnel was 265 feet long with a 27 foot shaft, and a 25 foot adit. Inside was discovered hanging walls of granite gangue, quartzite, native and gray copper, and native silver and gold. Our main vein is 39 1/2 feet wide between walls of granite and quartzite.
While some companies purchase their specimens to re-sell to others at a higher price, when you purchase from us it's coming directly from the source with no processing or chemical alteration.
We take pride in the fact that you aren't just buying a specimen - but a piece of Colorado 1800's history with each and every sale.
