Ancient Gladiator Wax seal Cufflinks Cameo Antique Copper
These make an excellent wedding gift or gift for groomsmen! Perfect for any man in your life!
ORIGINS:
These cuff links are made using an antique Wax Seal of unknown origin. They depict the cameo of a Greek or Roman gladiator or soldier.
MEANING:
A gladiator (Latin: gladiator, "swordsman", from gladius, "sword") was an armed combatant who entertained audiences in the Roman buying Republic and Roman Empire in violent confrontations with other gladiators, wild animals, and condemned criminals. Some gladiators were volunteers who risked their legal and social standing and their lives by appearing in the arena. Most were despised as slaves, schooled under harsh conditions, socially marginalized, and segregated even in death.
Irrespective of their origin, gladiators offered audiences an example of Rome's martial ethics and, in fighting or dying well, they could inspire admiration and popular acclaim. They were celebrated in high and low art, and their value as entertainers was commemorated in precious and commonplace objects throughout the Roman world.
CUFF LINKS:
These cuff links are made out of pure metal (copper in the main picture), and hand stamped with an antique wax seal of a gladiator, then soldered on to silver tone cuff link backings.
Each cuff link seal is stamped, sanded, polished and oxidized for an antique look. Because they are hand-stamped individually and made to order, these seal stampings are truly unique, and no two stampings are the same (unlike those cast from a mold). The cuff links are also available in silver or bronze.
DIMENSIONS:
The cuff link face is slightly larger than 1/2″ across.
Your cuff links will arrive beautifully packaged with an explanation of the seal. They're perfect for gift-giving!
