This is an antique, China fairing box.
A handpainted woman's hand adorns the top of the box.
Such a unique and rare find!
China fairings are so named because they were given away as prizes at fairs in the Victorian era, in much the same way that we would win a toy at a fair today, although some were manufactured simply for sale.
They first started appearing in the middle of the nineteenth century.
These were handmade in Germany.
In mostly good condition! Minimal paint loss. Very small chips in the petals. More like flea bites.
The hand is so beautiful, a bit of the tip of the pointer finger is missing.
The box section of this is damaged. It appears it has been glued where the broken parts are.
I found it this way.
And I've had buying this in my personal collection for years.
It has stayed sturdy and I've never had an issue with it. It sits beautifully on a shelf with no issue.
See photos thouroughly for all details on damage.
Measures : 4 1/2 inches tall by 4 1/2 inches wide.
