buying A female figurine, an excellent sample of the ancient Cycladic Civilization. Cycladic art originates in the Cyclades, a cluster of about 30 small islands in the south-western part of the Aegean. They include islands such as Naxos and Paros, which were famous for their top quality marble. Cycladic figurines such as this one were produced during the 3rd millennium B.C., carved in marble. They continue to inspire great artists to this day. The figurines depict naked women who stand with their arms folded at their breast. Their abstract form was perhaps an ideal representation of the Mother Goddess, a symbol of rebirth. They are characterized by their simple design and their seemingly modern look. This figurine is based on the National Archeological Museum's collection of Cycladic Art, and the Museum of Cycladic Art's collection in Athens
