Medium-size 'Sun, Moon and Stars' Jardinière - Craftsman Style - Forest Green and Coffee Brown buying - Distinctive Pattern - Heavy Crockery
This is a Robinson Ransbottom pottery jardiniere planter from the early.
buying This is a Robinson Ransbottom pottery jardiniere planter from the early 1900s in the "Sun and Moon" pattern (also known as Palmetto and Sunburst) in excellent condition still holding its wonderful brown glossy glaze edge down to a forest green in an ombre transition. Its not marked on the bottom and there are circles, donut like, in the typical 'moon' shapes. The inside is a deep coffee brown. Its a great piece to add to a jardiniere collection or put on the porch with a Boston fern - straight out of a Frank Lloyd Wright picture.
These jardinieres are heavy because they are made from a stoneware material that is different from the traditional clay of art pottery. This is the medium size of the three sizes of jardinieres. It measures 7" tall with a 8" diameter opening and the sides are ¼" thick. It has no crazing, chips or cracks.
