1960's buying Mid-Century Modern Stoneware Bowl by Walter Dexter (1931-2015) This piece is signed on the bottom and is in very good rustic condition. One small chip on the edge. "Walter Dexter (1931-2015) is one of the towering figures of ceramics arts in Canada and Canadian art history. Dexter formally studied ceramics at the then Alberta College of Art and later the Swedish School of Arts and Crafts. Dexter is renowned for his experimentations and unique approach to Japanese ceramic Raku processes. His approach to ceramics ultimately transcended the form and is often read through the lens of abstract expressionist painting; and later on figurative sculpture in his series of "torso vases." Dexter had a significant solo exhibition of his works in 1995 at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria as well as a book Walter Dexter: The Torso Masterworks published in 2012, a few years prior to his passing. His work are in the permanent collections of the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, the Alberta.
