Product code: Wood buying salad bowl, hand turned honey locust fruit or salad bowl

This 9 inch hand turned salad bowl displays all the characteristics of Honey Locust - highly defined grain patterns along with warm tones of dark honey heart wood, contrasted with the lighter caramel tones of the sap wood. As delicious as that sounds, its ideally suited for your favourite salads or snacks.

Included is a 10 ml container of my home made wood butter to renew the finish if the bowl starts to dry out after repeated washings. I make my wood butter from organic Ontario beeswax and food grade mineral oil.

Please visit the rest of my shop and check out the many one-of a kind bowls, pepper mills, rolling pins, pens and other items that I offer.

Every piece I create is hand turned on a lathe in my own studio. It all begins with a carefully selected, locally sourced log, cut with a chain saw into suitable sizes for the specific item it will be used for. Occasionally, I will use exotic wood for special applications - always purchased from a reputable supplier. Although each piece of wood offers its own surprises once it is turned, when looking for wood I am drawn to unique pieces with character, such as spalting, burls, highly figured grain patterns or crotches. The wood blank is mounted on the lathe and carefully turned to its final shape. I take great care in sanding and finishing every item I make, going well beyond the usual 400 - 600 grit sanding to 1000 grit or higher, depending on the piece. Unless buying otherwise noted, all my pieces are then finished with a natural and food-safe oil or oil/wax finish that preserves and protects the natural beauty of the wood and imparts a silky-smooth feel.

The journey from tree to finished piece is a lengthy one and requires both skill and patience to arrive at the piece shown here. If you purchase an item from Butternut Ridge, you can be assured of a very high-quality finish that is sure to impress.

Looking for something a little different than what you see here? Feel free to contact me, as custom made orders are often an option, and will allow you greater choice into the size, shape and type of wood."
