Product code: 1805 buying Fraktur Rug Hooking Pattern, Linen

1805 Fraktur rug hooking pattern, 19 X 22 inches with at least 3 inches extra backing along sides. Edges are serged. A photo of my finished rug is included with each pattern. Pattern is on natural linen, but also available on cotton rug warp on request. This is a pattern only, not a kit with wool for buying hooking.

The 1805 Fraktur is adapted from a Southeast Pennsylvania Fraktur, probably from Bucks County, and most likely a reward of merit made by an anonymmous schoolmaster for Henick Ziegler.

"Fraktur are hand-written manuscripts or printed manuscripts that are hand decorated with pen and ink, or watercolors. Primarily made for Pennsylvania Germans and German-American families in the 18th and 19th centuries [but] they are still being made today. American fraktur had its roots in medieval European decorated manuscript art. Unlike the European counterparts, however, American fraktur are personal family records...decorated for fun and were meant to be kept by the family, displayed and enjoyed. ...Frequently early fraktur artists were schoolmasters who made drawings of birds and flowers to reward students who excelled at their studies." ...From Fraktur: Folk Art & Family.
