Cocobolo (Latin Dalbergia retusa Hemsl.), grows on the northern Pacific coast of Nicaragua. This tree was first described in 1878 by a famous British traveler and royal gardens botanist William Hemsley, whose surname now adorns the Latin name of the species. Cocobolos' alburnum is gray, a perfect contrast to the incredibly variegated core wood - like a kaleidoscope, its colors range from dark orange to deep red, along with brown, black and even purple spots...
