This made in Mali bogolan textile (Bògòlanfini or bogolan is a handmade Malian cotton fabric traditionally dyed with fermented mud) is a one of a kind and unconventional piece that will easily add a unique and playful pop of color to any space.
Handcrafted products with designs referred to as "tribal", "ethnic" or "primitive" almost always carry great importance and signify deeper meanings for the individuals who create them and this is what happens when traditional indigo mud cloth gets a refreshing, modern upgrade by celebrating patterns and designs with multiple and complementary application techniques all on one cloth— symmetrical spirals, shibori and accordions.
Our mud buying cloth is a 100% handcrafted small batch creation: the cotton is woven into long strips (by hand), carefully stitched together (by hand) and then dyed (by hand) to complete the truly one-of-a-kind piece. The best part is that the ends are left unfinished (with a small fringe) to create pillows, throws or original wall decor.
We all can agree that sometimes a room needs just one more design element to pull it all together and our mud cloth can easily do that with just a simple fold-and-place right out of the package. No matter what you need the mud cloth for, we ship it ready to use— when it arrives at our studio, it is delicately washed and rinsed with a non-toxic natural fabric soap and air dries on a horizontal textile rack for 18 hours.
Although each piece is new, clean and has never been used, it may or may not include imperfections such as uneven/missing thread seams, small pieces of mud debris and/or a smudged (non perfect) section of pattern. If there is ever a large, notable or otherwise odd (aka noticeable and annoying imperfection) to the piece of cloth, it will definitely be photographed and described within the listing.
