Route 66 # 1460 is one of the earlier figurines from the Trail of Painted Ponies collection, and is made of ceramics rather than resin. Designed by Ellen Sokoloff and made by Westland in the early 2000s, it was formally retired in July of 2005. The figurine itself measures approximately 6" tall, 7" long and 2 3/8" wide. The base is 5 1/2" long and 2 1/2" wide.
This Pony is a replica of of a horse featured in the Public Art Project in New Mexico in 2000. The artist, Ellen Sokoloff, considers herself an "Americana Painter." Her artwork preserves scenes from an earlier time in our country's history. Childhood memories of western trips along the historic Route 66, America's "Mother Road," inspired the collage of diners, motels, gas stations and tourist attractions that embellish her Painted Pony.
This particular pony is number 8,849 from the 3rd edition. It comes with the original box, tag and packaging. The box was opened upon receipt to ensure everything was in order and undamaged, but has been stored in a closet in a non-smoking household buying ever since. The box has a few minor scuff marks on it (see pictures).
