The Great White, is largest predatory shark, has a reputation as a ruthless killer. Attacks on humans may occur because the shark mistakes swimmers for its natural food of seals or turtles. When a Great White attacks, it usually lunges up from below, delivering a lighting- fast bite before pulling back. Once the prey has been rendered helpless, it returns to shear off chunks whole it's triangular, serrated teeth. Smaller prey may be taken whole. After a large meal, the Shark buying may not feed again for several weeks. Wide- ranging and usually solitary, the Great White breeds at about 10 to 12 years, producing live young after a gestation of about 12 months.
