Product code: Big Red buying
buying Big Red is a fine example of a saggar fired vase. This piece was thrown on the potter's wheel and allowed to completely dry for days. It was then bisque fired to 1888 degrees fahrenheit and prepared for a saggar firing. Saggars are used to create a localized reduced atmosphere to concentrate the effects of metal oxides, soluable salts and other materials on the surface of the pot. Ware produced in saggars may display dramatic markings, with colors ranging from distinctive black and white markings to flashes of golds, greens, and reds.
