BRITISH WAR RELIEF ASSOCIATION. Owen, Adelaide M., Compiler. Old and New British Recipes Collected for Your Pleasure and Compiled for Your Convenience to Aid British War Relief. Five illustrated charts for Protein content of various foods, also for Calcium content, Phosphorus, Iron and Copper, and Vitamin content; also, 2 illustrated charts each, for Beef, Veal and Pork cuts; 125 pp. 8vo, spiral bound with red plastic at the top portion of the spine and blue at the lower end. [San Francisco: The Association] 1940.

The majority of the holdings (under 20) are in California institutions.

Many of the much maligned British oddities are here: Toad in the Hole; Haggis, genuine Christmas pudding; Trifle (a particular horror of mine as a child. The buying collection is oddly lacking in fruit fools, and where is that wonderful nursery treat “Treacle Tart” a blissful mixture of Lyle's Golden Syrup, bread-crumbs, and butter, flavored with lemon and baked in a short pastry shell? Sometimes served with a lattice of pastry for “company”. Some of the recipes are attributed, and some are taken from early cook books.
