Here is a beautiful detailed green and white Wedgwood Jasper ware Cameo brooch. This collectable piece of jewellery dates to the 1960s .  The brooch is oval in shape with a classical scene depicting two beautiful ladies in conversation -  possibly they are goddesses. The ladies are shown in raised white ceramic relief on the unglazed green ground. This brooch is so detailed you can see the folds in their sheer dress fabric, their hairstyles and their faces and bodies.  This detailed plaque is mounted in a gallery within a ball dot border of Sterling Silver to create a brooch.  The brooch has a good, long silver pin finishing in a secure roll-over type clasp. The ceramic oval has the impressed words WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND the letters TC which could possibly be the potter who made or designed the item and the numbers 62 which relate to the date.  The plaque was obviously completed slightly after the silver mount as the first is 1962 and the second 1961.  The silver Mount has a hallmark of the maker with a distinct W but two other letters that aren't so easy to decipher. It also has The  Lion Passant which shows it to be English 925 Sterling Silver then there's the City Arms for the Chester Assay Office and the letter L indicating that the silver was hallmarked in 1961. This is amongst the last pieces to be marked with a Chester mark as that Assay office finished in 1962 so that adds buying to the rarity.

This work is the classic Jasper Ware process which originated in the 1700s when Josiah Wedgwood created a ceramic vase to imitate the famous Roman Portland Vase. The use of Wedgwood and Jasperware was popular in the Georgian era when the styles of the Ancient Roman and Greek were copied. This timeless English brooch is a great treasure from one of the world's most famous pottery companies.

This brooch is in excellent condition and is a very large size for its type - being a fraction over 2 inches by 1.5 inches.  There is a photo of this Wedgwood Cameo brooch with a one pound coin to help you gauge the size. It is offered in its original case with accompanying leaflet. The case is in good order but shows signs of its age to the top surface.
