Product code: Victorian Amethyst brooch, buying gold filled
This lovely brooch dates all the way back to the 1800s.. I have not tested this brooch for metal content but it is probably gold filled, as was common for much jewelry of the period. Five amethyst stones are prong set at the center of buying the brooch. I think these are real amethysts as these were also popular in the jewelry of the time. This brooch measures 1.75 inches or 4.5 cm wide. There are no metal marks or makers marks on this brooch. The back of the brooch has a tube hinge and a simple c catch closure. When you lift the pin you can see that at some point in the past some solder has been added to the brooch. I think this was to stabilize the center section of the brooch.
