This is an archivally matted, ready for framing, photogravure plate from the 1970s, a costly printing process using etched copper plates with no dots such as in offset lithographic printing. The process yields a velvety rich black and lush mid-tones and the age of the paper adds a soft cream glow to the print. Plate 140 is a "Lycaste" orchid as photographed by Guy Burgess. We have multiple images listed at this size.
The image area for the prints measures 7 1/2 x 9 7/8 inches. The outer mat size is 11 x 14 inches which will easily fit into a standard size picture frame. Top mat is an archival Crescent buying Matt Board, 4 ply with a bevel cut in color Pure White (which is slightly cream). Backing board is acid free and a nice firm weight for framing. Each print is individually bagged in cellophane with a removable back label identifying the orchid and artist.
