Screech Owl / American Kestrel - Nesting Box. These boxes are very sturdy built. The box is constructed with wood screws as well as nails. The right side pivots open to access the nesting cavity by removing the bottom right front screw. There are grooves to aid chicks to climb out on the inside front side. There is an added air vent on the door opening as well as air holes in the bottom of the box. There are 3 holes at the top and bottom for mounting. The outer holes also allow for using wire to go around a tree if desired. The 19/32 exterior plywood is a good insulator. Plywood is stronger than regular wood. Tips:
-Do not mount your box where you will be using pesticides, insecticides, or herbicides.
-For Kestrels - It is best to place the box on a pole, side of a barn, or on a dead or lone tree in an open field. The entrance should face an open area. Use a predator guard below the box.
-For Screech Owls - Place in woods, along woodland edges, or in yards with large trees. Keep away from sidewalks or doors.
