buying A really rather gorgeous antique brass water carrier / watering can with lift-up lid, complete with its original brass pourer.
I believe this was likely made by Joseph Sankey & Sons (although there is no mark on the bottom other than the number 4 - numbers were widely used by Sankey to mark the Art Nouveau metalware produced). Sankey is believed to have started producing art metalware in Staffordshire, England from about 1890 and registered many Art Nouveau designs from 1896 through to 1914.
It measures: 26cm tall to the top of the handle; the can itself is 15.5cm high; 29cm from spout to handle; 11.5cm wide; and the opening is 11cm x 7cm. It weighs just under 600 grammes unfilled.
There are some very minor dents, marks and scratches commensurate with age (please see images and zoom) but a very nice example of its kind and I've never come across one still with its original pourer!
All of our products are pre-loved and up-cycled so please expect some perfect imperfections!
