Handcarved 'Christmas Man' Ornament, woodburned, handpainted, a woodcarving, of a Carved Santa Claus from my very own woodworking woodshop, Wasatch Woodcarver here in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. Use him as a wooden gift and tree hanger for a favorite friend or child this holiday.
Size: 4 1/2" X 3" X 3/8" This is the exact carving you will receive when you purchase this ornament.
I started a Christmas tradition when my boys were just babies. Each Christmas I would give them an ornament, which I planned to have buying them take with them when, years later, they would marry and start their own traditions. You may enjoy starting the same tradition in your family.
Each Christmas ornament is started when I design and draw a pattern. I transfer the pattern to paper and cut it out with scissors. The outline of the pattern is drawn next on cardboard and then on 3/8" thick basswood, which I then cut out, using a scroll saw. I draw the main lines on the wood, then begin to carve the ornament using gouges, V-tools, and knives. As each layer is carved, I have to re-draw the pattern and details on several times.
The ornaments can take anywhere from 7+ hours to carve and finish. Once completely carved, before sealing the wood, I use a woodburner in some areas, to give depth and shadow to the ornament. Before antiquing, I wood burn my name, the name of the carving and the carving number on the back of each one, with the same pyro-graphic pen. Next I seal the wood with lacquer or Minwax, let it dry, then begin the painting process. I use acrylic paints, in very thin layers, building up the layers to give each ornament depth and highlights. The painting alone can take from 2 - 3 hours each, before I do the antiquing and finishing processes.
I use the antiquing solution to give more depth and a vintage look to almost every carving. I let it dry for 24 hours before finishing it with Deft and wax, to keep it clean from the many hands that will handle it lovingly for years to come. My final step is to add a brass screw eye and a bright Christmas ribbon. Most of my ornaments take 7+ hours to complete.
Each Ornament comes in a free re-usable gift box with my Signature Santa gift card and bright ribbon, all ready to be hung on someone's tree or given as a gift, to be cherished by the receiver.

Each carving is signed and numbered.
