Found at an Italian flea market, this vintage YAAD mid-century hinged copper box was hand-made by renown Israeli artists Bezalel (1912-1978) buying and Zahara Schatz (1916-1999). The Modernist linear design on this box includes a small bezel-set purple precious stone. The silver plating has intentionally been rubbed off and is a signature of the unique design. Box measures 15x20x3cm and opens like a book. Perfect for storing jewelry, photos, or small papers.
Similar works have sold online for over $400. The duo also created 2-D art, sculptures, and jewelry, as well as functional design objects.
The YAAD design workshop was founded in the 1950s by the siblings whose father, Boris, founded the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem in 1906.
