This is buying a Wedgwood Blue on White "Reverse" Jasperware Bottle Bud Vase from 1980.
There is something very perverse about Wedgwood doing the opposite of what they are so famous for. When people speak of Wedgwood pottery,, they typically get a mental image of white intaglio designs on a blue ground pot. So this is Wedgwood simply reversing the process: the pot ground is now the base white colour and the applique designs are blue. Hence locals refer to this as "reverse" Wedgwood.
This is another piece from my own small collection of Wedgwood. It isn't in my favoured colourway but I just loved the reversal concept. Definitely an expression of my character to challenge norms (I can hear my mother's heart felt sigh at that admission even across the thirty years since she passed).
So this bottle shaped bud vase went into storage shortly after purchase in 1980 when I took off to the West Coast and it has only just emerged. It is therefore in excellent condition with no chips cracks etc.
The shape and style are relatively common to Wedgwood. the neck is circled by a swag of leaves and flowers, and the vase itself is decorated by four intaglio designs of ladies and cherubs, usually assumed to represent the four seasons.
The vase has the "Wedgwood" and "Made in England" stamps on the base and "80" to indicate the piece was made in 1980.
The vase is 12 cm high. The diameter at the base is 5 cm and at the top is 4 cm. Weight: 249 g
